About time!

January 9, 2011

I wrote the following blog entry on the 15th November 2010, and have never got around to posting it! So this is my blog entry for my first day at OYAP!

“So today I woke at 6am, because for some weird reason my body wouldn’t let me sleep. And being the organsied person that I am (I HATE being late for anything!) I left my house at 8.30am for a 45 minute journey. I’m not entirely sure why I left so early…I think I was worried about traffic; alas there was none!

So after doing my morning ritual of being early for everything, I arrived at OYAP for our first training day. Slight nerves greeted me at what I was to expect on our first day, but everything was so relaxed and everyone was lovely, I felt at home.

The day flew past! We got to know everyone by the means of paper airplanes, discussed and presented our ideas for our community youth project in groups of fours, and discussed working towards our Gold Arts Award.

Having a chat with Becca, from last years programme, made me realise how exciting I am and how inspirational everyone’s ideas are. But at the same time preparing for lows, as well as (hopefully!!) lots of highs!

I can’t wait to get started! And I’m incredibly excited about our trip to Modern Art Oxford on Friday, where I can explore my love of galleries, museums and all things heritage! I truly believe this will make me feel even more inspired and excited about the next few months!”

Brick Lane Exhibition

June 13, 2009

This piece of work is a collaboration with Gary Roberts. It was for an exhibition held in Brick Lane, and we played on the idea of the Rotunda, our studio at WSA, looking like a merry go round.

My childhood in maps…

June 13, 2009

This piece of work, is responding to the idea of maps, and my childhood. As I have always been interested in the beauty of maps, I wanted to create a piece of work which follows the idea of mapping my childhood memories, from the area in which in I grew up in. I wanted the work to reflect words and feelings that I felt about that certain location, and I also wanted that playful element in the work, which was what my childhood was about.

Fashion Brochure for Graduate Fashion Week

June 13, 2009

This is a brochure I designed for the fashion students, at Winchester School of art and their graduate fashion week in 2009. I was given the words; organic, nature, fantasy and fairytale, and told to come up with a theme that could be used on the stand, for the brochure and ticket.   This is inspired by insect wings, that I felt looked like fairy wings. Each layer was done separately  on tracing paper, to create the different textures.

Rob Ryan inspired headers…

June 13, 2009

These images are from a piece of work on my influences. I had to do a five minute talk about my influences and I used these cut outs, as the header to each influence. I made them like this, as they are in the style of Rob Ryan, him being one of my influences.

Crisis Brief: D&AD

June 13, 2009

These are photos from my D&AD, Crisis Brief. The brief set was to design a piece of direct mail, aimed at making people aware of the charity and its causes. I produced a package of gift tags and wrapping paper, with each tag handmade, to make it look like it had come from the person whose name was on the front. On the back of the tags, there are name, address and date of birth lines to fill in, but with the name and date of birth already filled in and the address left blank, as to say this person doesnít have a home, so why not donate to Crisis.

The Thomas Garnier Garden Book

June 13, 2009

This is a book I designed and made that was inspired by a space, I felt connected to. It is a book about a garden, in the grounds of Winchester Cathedral, called ëThe Thomas Garnier Gardení. I spent a lot of time in the garden drawing the early signs of springs; bluebells and daffodils. I wanted the book to look like a journal, and I think I achieved this. I put it together as a book, by binding it together and making it hardback, with a dustcover.
